The mim's reputation is built on its extraordinary collection. With a wealth of more than 7000 musical instruments, the mim is world renowned.
The collections are looked after by a staff of scientists called 'organologists' because of their specialism in the study of musical instruments. Each of them is responsible for one or more separate collections. They are helped by a team working in the workshop for conservation and restoration. Numerically, the larger part of the collection is stored in reserves not accessible to the general public.
