Beloved Cello

The finest sonatas for three cellos

We are fortunate that a superb corpus of sonatas for three or two cellos and basso continuo has come down to us, although to the best of our knowledge there are no more than thirty works.

We also have the chance to sing with three cellos in Venetian, thanks to the magnificent sonatas by Marcello, a contemporary of Vivaldi. The two French composers represented were among the first Parisian cellists of the early 18th century. Cervetto, although Italian by birth, spent most of his life in London, where he lived to the age of 101! As for Myslivecek, although unknown to the general public, he was well appreciated by Mozart, and along with Umstatt is one of the composers attached to Vienna.

Program: works by Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739), Jean Barrière (1707-1747), Giacobbe Bassevi detto Cervetto (1682-1783), Joseph Myslivecek (1737-1781)

Coordination: Alain Gervreau

This concert is part of a series of 3. The dates of the other concerts are 19.02 and 18.03.
