Musical Road Movie & Concert

‘Long Live the Dead’ is a musical road movie by Sofie Haenegreefs set in northern Ghana. It follows kologo musician Stevo Atambire as he travels the Frafra country on his motorbike to play at funerals. With his songs, he pays tribute to the deceased and helps family members say goodbye to their loved ones. The film premiered at the African Film Festival and won the Audience Award from the Flemish UNESCO.
The film will be followed by a concert by Stevo Atambire. Stevo is an award-winning musician known as the leader of Alostmen. A Neo-Griot of Frafra origin, he plays the kologo like no other. A two-string guitar made from calabash and goatskin, this instrument is considered to be the predecessor of the banjo. Its sounds are both melodic and percussive. Stevo is well known in Ghana. His voice, his playing and his messages have made him popular among his Frafra people. He is a much sought-after musician at traditional funeral ceremonies and weddings.
