From Sunday 28 January to Sunday 2 February 2025, La Semaine du Son/De Week van de Klank is hosting two sound installations on the theme of Sub Terra at the MIM. The opening of the exhibition will take place on 28/01 between 12:00 and 14:00, with two musical performances in the MIM concert hall.
The sound installations are:
- Le bruit de fond - Thibault Jehanne
Le bruit de fond is a field recording of the ground in the Union district of Tourcoing. A vast wasteland awaiting new housing, the Union district still bears the residue of industrial activity that has been dormant since the 1970s. - RhizoRhythme - Prosépin
RhizoRythme is a participatory and immersive sound installation, with the aim of highlighting the links that unite us, almost unnoticeably. It invites the audience to wear a sensor that will pick up each individual heart rate, to then put on a headset and listen to the collective beat of all participants.
With performances at 12:30:
- Transparent Music - Florence Cats (prepared theremin)
Florence Cats’ work is drawn from nature, travel, light, time, energy and fragility. She plays the theremin in a minimal and experimental way, interfering with various elements such as water, space, radio, voice, needle, pendulum, ring, string, bowl, coal, oscillating between acoustic and electric sounds.
- Winterslag - Clara Levy (violin)
Winterslag is a projectdeveloped in the former Genk mine of the same name. Initially intended as an album, the various pieces in the project are inspired by the acoustics of the site, mining songs from various countries and the different states of coal (from coal to anthracite).
