The Other Side of History project introduces visitors to the social and historical atmosphere of the late 18th and early 19th century former Dubrovnik Republic. Considering that the Dubrovnik Museums own an exceptionally valuable fortepiano built by Viennese builder Anton Walter around 1790, which restoration made it possible for performing again, the project contains representative examples of Dubrovnik's musical legacy, including female composers and their European contemporaries.
Two young Croatian artists, soprano Marija Lešaja and pianist and author of the project Ivana Jelača, are presenting repertoires from the past that open up the broader cultural context of music. The performance in Brussels completes the successful collaboration of the Croatian-Austrian Association Dubrovnik and The Rest is Music NGO, following “survived” Walter’s instruments in Croatia and abroad (Vienna, Eisenstadt, Salzburg).
The project is realized by the Croatian-Austrian Association Dubrovnik and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Brussels, supported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, and in partnership with the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Museums as part of the „Year of UNESCO World Heritage in Dubrovnik“, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the inscription of Old City on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the recent addition of Archives of the Republic of Dubrovnik (1022-1808) to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
